چکیده

In this paper, research on transverse vibrations of axially moving strings and their control is thoroughly reviewed. In the last few decades, there have been extensive studies on analysis and control of transverse vibrations of axially moving strings because of the wide applications of many engineering devices that axially moving strings represent. In the investigations adopting linear models of moving strings, the paper summarizes recent studies on modal analysis, complicatedly constrained strings, coupled vibrations, and parametric vibration, as well as some early results. In the investigations adopting nonlinear models of moving strings, the paper presents the governing equations with large amplitude, and reviews progress on discretized or direct approximate analytical analyses and numerical approaches based on the Galerkin method or the finite difference method. Furthermore, investigations are reported on modeling of damping mechanisms as viscoelastic materials, coupled vibration of power transmission systems, and bifurcation and chaos. The state of the art of active control of moving strings is surveyed on controllability and observability, the Laplace transform domain analysis and the energy analysis, nonlinear vibration control and adaptive vibration control. Finally, future research directions are suggested such as nonlinear vibration of moving strings under complex constraints and couplings, energetics of nonlinear and time-varying strings, bifurcation and chaos in transverse motion of moving strings, control of hybrid systems containing moving strings, robust and adaptive controls of nonlinear moving strings, and experimental investigations. In this review article there are 242 references cited. @DOI: 10.1115/1.1849169#

Nonlinear Dynamics of the Rotational Slender Axially Moving String with Simply Supported Conditions

In this research, dynamic analysis of the rotational slender axially moving string is investigated. String assumed as Euler Bernoulli beam. The axial motion of the string, gyroscopic force and mass eccentricity were considered in the study. Equations of motion are derived using Hamilton’s principle, resulting in two partial differential equations for the transverse motions. The equations are ch...

Nonlinear vibration analysis of axially moving strings in thermal environment

In this study, nonlinear vibration of axially moving strings in thermal environment is investigated. The vibration haracteristics of the system such as natural frequencies, time domain response and stability states are studied at different temperatures. The velocity of the axial movement is assumed to be constant with minor harmonic variations. It is presumed that the system and the environment...

Investigation of Dynamical Behavior (Transverse Vibration) and Instability Analysis of Carbon Nanotubes Conveying Nanofluid

This work focuses on the dynamical behavior of carbon nanotubes, including vibration, wave propagation and fluid-structure interaction. In the present research, transverse vibration of nano fluid conveying carbon nanotubes is investigated. To this end, based on the nonlocal and strain-inertia gradient continuum elasticity theories and by using rod and Euler-Bernoulli beam models, the system’s d...

Dynamic Instability Analysis of Transverse Vibrations of Functionally Graded Rectangular Plates under Moving Masses

In this paper, dynamic instability due to parametric and external resonances of moderately thick functionally graded rectangular plates, under successive moving masses, is examined. Plate mass per unit volume and Young’s modulus are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness of the plate and obey a power-law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituent. The considered rectangu...

Vibration control of an axially moving string system: Wave cancellation method

Active vibration control is investigated for axially moving strings with a tersioner. The tensioner is used as an actuator. The active control law is proposed from the view of the traveling wave propagation. Transverse response of both the uncontrolled and the controlled systems is derived in the frequency domain. The designed controller is numerically tested for the string under impulse and ha...
